Another chapter in growth of West Vincent?
Editorial No. 1 03/25/2004
Perhaps you’ve noticed the ongoing discussion in West Vincent concerning a proposal which would create the largest housing complex on the northern third of the Route 100 corridor in Chester County.

Briefly, a Villanova developer has proposed a $25 million apartment complex which would include 216 units on 120 acres adjacent to the Ludwig’s Corner Fire Company land near Nantmeal Road.

There have been some issues regarding whether the complex would comply with existing zoning ordinances. The developer contends most of those issues have been addressed.

However, a group of current township residents is opposed to the plan.

What’s at stake? The residents’ group says the township’s rural character could disappear if this project goes through - that these apartments might pave the way for more building and additional development.

We’ve seen this kind of scenario many times before. But will this one turn out differently?

Supervisors are expected to vote on the plan on April 12.

Stay tuned.

To say we're worried about the rural character of the area makes us trivial! It's about the exceptional value stream located on the property, (but not on the developer's plans) that provides drinking water to the area. This stream will surely be contaminated if the apartment complex is approved. It's also about the shady dealings that occured to get an apartment complex on a zoned residential site. It's about the apartment complex not even having DEP approval but for some unknown reason is getting approval by our local government. The site doesn't even comply with the local township regulations. The list is endless and yes, somewhere after all these safety & integrity concerns lies the issue of rural character.
